Nigel Frage: NI rise 'hurts everybody'

Saturday, 12th December 2009

UKIP has hit out at Chancellor Alistair Darling's announcement in his Pre-Budget Report of a half-per cent rise in National Insurance contributions.

"Increasing National Insurance by 0.5% both for employers and employees is a
punishment for working and employing," said UKIP MEP Nigel Farage.

"It is a brilliant strategy for undermining effort and hurts everybody.

"To pretend it isn't tax is an insult. But worse is the 50% hit on any banking bonuses over £25,000 is sheer economic madness.

"The message that this government is sending is blindingly obvious: If you are young and talented and work in the financial system, you are not wanted in the UK, well at least this year".

"And to balance this with a cut on Bingo duty! Words fail me."
